Project Qualifications
At Ashlyns, we offer project qualifications at both KS4 and KS5, across the Foundation Project Qualification (FPQ level 1), the Higher Project Qualification (HPQ level 2) and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ, level 3) These project qualifications aim to produce well rounded, independent learners, and develop important core skills of self motivation, research, and planning. We follow the AQA specifications at both KS4 and KS5.
Key Stage 4
At the beginning of Year 10, students first study and develop a range of necessary skills for the successful completion of either Level 1 or Level 2 project qualification; they study the theory of research, planning, and presentation skills and are given the opportunity to develop this on practice project work. As Year 10 progresses, students select their own area for research in their projects, and develop the skills they began to study by carefully planning, researching, writing and presenting their projects. The aim is for the majority of these projects to be finished by the end of Year 10, in order that students then have extra time in Year 11 to devote to structured and supported revision for their other GCSE subjects.
Key Stage 5
At the beginning of the course, students first study and develop a range of necessary skills for the successful completion of a Level 3 project; they study the theory of research and planning as well as the work that underlines the completion of a developed and detailed research project based on their own areas of interest. They then select their areas of interest and carefully plan for research, prepare project briefs, research, manage resources, complete detailed necessary paperwork, and write an extended report based upon their project development and outcomes.
